Lands on Cashback and loyalty
5
steps across 3 companies to resolve one untracked transaction. Not one of them is automated
Nobody automates the claim
The strongest negative result in the research. Repeated searches found no vendor addressing it at all.
Quidco's own consumer help page: claims "typically take longer to be reviewed and paid than typical cashback payments, due to the manual review needed." No timeframe is published, which is honest given how variable the process is, and it also means a member has nothing to plan around.
Webgains documents why claims happen - tracking code removed, deduplication, cookie consent rejected, adblockers - and documents the advertiser's side of reviewing one, down to which icon to click. What nobody documents is the journey: who holds it, for how long, and what happens between the 3 companies it crosses.
Publisher support labour, network account management labour, merchant finance labour, and a consumer waiting an unpredictable length of time. Nobody has ever totalled it.
The cashback platform bears the customer-facing cost of a failure that happened in the merchant's tag.
What I could not establish
- Claim volumes or average handling times at any UK platform. No published figures exist anywhere.

The causes of untracked sales, and that the processing of a claim is documented nowhere.
Every source carries the date it was read. Where there is no link the document is held on file and cited by publisher and title.
My read
This stays manual because it crosses 3 companies and no single one owns it end to end. Everybody's part is small. Nobody's part is the whole thing. That is the shape of every process that survives a decade without anybody automating it, and it is why the fix is almost never a piece of software.
What I'd do with this
Time one claim end to end, with a date against every handover. Most platforms have never measured it, because measuring it means asking 2 other companies for their timestamps. That conversation is usually more revealing than the number.

Follow a transaction from the moment it happens to the moment everyone has been paid. Then find the place it stopped.
